Suzanne, Check out the BodyWorks program - a federally funded behavior change program that teaches parents how to be healthy role models for their children. http://www.womenshealth.gov/bodyworks
We have trainers across the country who have trained more than a thousand families. Small steps but the program is key to changing lives.

Suzanne, your article is plain common sense...sometimes it stares us in the face but we don't see it! I think you've hit the problem on the head...moms aren't home to fix dinner (from scratch), also they aren't home to make a snack and send the kids out to play. Kids are at daycare or afterschool care until 6, not in their backyards playing. Our neighborhood has a sign "Caution--Kids at Play" and I have to laugh because there's never a kid in sight, just the yardmen doing the yard work people (and kids) used to do for themselves. Sandy
