"There are more slaves in the U.S. today than there were when Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation." -- Ashton Kutcher on Good Morning America, in reference to U.S. human trafficking

FACTS: There are approximately 16K people, primarily women and children, who are trafficked to the U.S. annually. There were 4 million slaves freed as a result of the Civil War.

Not to mention that slavery was an American problem, with Americans to blame. Trafficking is not inherent to the U.S.; it only becomes our problem because people from OTHER countries bring them here.

Don't be too hard on Ashy boy. He's from Hollywood. (Need I say more?)

And some Americans knowingly accept the services of slaves, namely those who take advantage of sex slaves in the US and those who hire farm-working slaves and pay them less than a living wage, which is prevalent in the south. In addition, as long as Americans purchase goods made internationally in sweatshops, then we are complicit in the worldwide slave trade and should do what we can to eradicate it.

So Ashton Kutcher wasn't completely wrong.
